My great-grandfather was an oysterman out of Baltimore for a time. This is my interpretation of a late, cold afternoon in places such as Fell’s Point in Baltimore back in the late 19th century.
A delivery of oysters is being made at Henry’s Oyster House late in the day just as snow is starting to fall. Mrs. Bauer is rushing down to Henry’s to purchase oysters to take home and make her famous oyster stew for supper. Her little girl has spotted her friend up at the window. Henry, his son, and the watermen are having a chat after unloading the catch.
